Our Calendar Is Packed With Fun!
We have a busy cold-weather season coming up, so please visit our CALENDAR page regularly.  Better yet, please mark your
family calendars with these important Troop 6 dates.
We Have Selected Our 2012 Summer Camp
We are going to Camp Raven Knob (near Winston Salem, North Carolina) this summer.  The dates are marked on our July calender.  Please note that .
As always, we will be packing our vehicles on the Saturday before we depart.   It is important that we all bring our footlockers to WMUMC that afternoon so that we can distribute the load correctly.
Speaking of summer camp, I'd like to take this opportunity to tell the parents of our new Scouts that we operate a bank during our week at camp.  We bring a small safe with us, and in it we put an envelope for each Scout.  In that envelope is his weekly allowance, put there by his parents during the run-up to going to summer camp.  When we're at camp we open the bank twice a day so that the Scouts can withdraw a reasonable amount of their allowance.  This reduces the possibility of a Scout accidentally loosing his all of money or spending all of it on the first day.  With your permission, we will also hold back the price of a camp T-shirt so that he has one to wear home.  How much m oney should a Scout have at camp?  I recommend between $30 and $50, depending upon the number of craft-type merit badges taht a Scout is going to take at camp.  Summer Camp Trading Post typically sell neckerchief slide blanks, basket-weaving and chair-seat-weaving kits, simple leather projects, and Indian Lore kits.  These kits sell for between $5 and $25.  Go to our LINKS page and visit the Scout Stuff site to learn more.
Troop 6 Handbook
To help everyone understand how we operate as a troop I put together a Troop 6 Handbook (.docx).  Please let me know what you think about it.
Troop 6 Guide
Here is a PowerPoint presentation that I created to help everyone understand what we all must do to make our outdoor program successful.   Please take a moment and look at the presentation.
Troop 6 Leadership Guide
One of the major tenets of the Boy Scout program is leadership training.   I have put together a short document for the Scouts to read that will help them learn what a young man needs to know to become an effective leader.   Please read Leading The Way to learn more.
